Hi my name is Semaj Thomas and I am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer for HiClimb. After years of running and playing recreational basketball up into my early 20s, I needed a new outlet to supplement my pastry career. (I’d heard enough stories about ailments and injuries from working in the restaurant industry.) I walked into my first gym uncomfortably skinny and with low confidence, but a drive to become as fit and able for as long as possible.
What I built was an efficient physique and an undoubtedly stronger mind based on functional fitness, along with a passion for breaking down fitness and a knowledge of exercise programming that I offer to you today.
Climbing hit my radar in 2019, specifically bouldering. To have something shift your perspective on what it means to be fit, as a fitness professional, was both alarming and incredibly intriguing: a new challenge, accepted. Body awareness, mindset and efficiency are critical to the sport, and as I’ve elevated my level of climbing and its enjoyment through these practices, I’m confident I can help you do the same!

Born and raised in Hawai’i, Nick grew up being very active. At a young age, you could find him hiking in the mountains or playing in the surf. He’s always enjoyed high adrenaline sports like skateboarding, bodyboarding and snowboarding. Picking up his first dumbbell in 2007 at the age of 15 as a lanky teenager, he felt insecure about being what he perceived to be skinny and weak.

Through hard work and dedication in his high school weight training class, along with strength training with friends at his local gym, he was able to effectively begin building muscle and improving strength which led to an improved physique and self-image. This peaked his interested in exercise science and he has continued to strength train ever since. This experience combined with his newfound love of indoor and outdoor climbing, lead Nick to obtain his Personal Training Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Nick also works as a full-time law enforcement officer for the State of Hawai’i. He appreciates the role being healthy plays in not just surviving, but also thriving and that to effectively serve the public, maintaining physical and mental health and fitness is not an option but an obligation.

Born in Brazil and raised in Maryland, Bruno was an upbeat and outdoorsy kid. At the age of 7 he developed tourettes and after trying medications and other alternative forms of cure, his family decided to move back to Brazil to try something new. It was there that he found a more holistic approach to fixing his tourettes.
Through surfing, alternation medication practices and new found love for music, over the years he learned how to control his tics (control the somatic nervous system). At the age of 15 he moved back to the U.S and began training in Martial Arts. He earned his 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido and 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. In 2017 he started Jiu-Jitsu and is now a Sponsored Athlete with a local brand here on island. In 2018 he earned his 200hr Yoga Certification and in 2022 earned his Functional Patterns Human Foundations Certification and ISSA (International Sports Science Association) certification.
Today Bruno loves to share his knowledge for fitness beyond just the physical gains. He knows first hand how lifestyle and mental health are affected when we lack control over our bodies. Training to address the system and not the symptoms is what it's all about to be in the best shape of your life!
ANGELO OASAY

Availability: MONDAY - SUNDAY

Contact Angelo for further details:

Born in the Philippines and raised in Hawai’i, Angelo’s love story with the gym started out like most—on the bench press. It was a summer’s day in 2014 when he stepped foot into the gym for the first time to prepare for his high school’s JROTC challenge team. It was through the challenge team did he come to fall in love with physical training and the essence of fitness. Through the years, he’s gone through many phases of fitness from bodybuilding and powerlifting thanks to the challenge team, to olympic weightlifting because of a kinesiology class he took in his senior year of high school, and an appreciation of calisthenics and long distance running during the COVID pandemic. Climbing came into his mix towards the later half of 2021, and he believes that it plays a crucial role in enhancing performance when it comes to chucking weight and making big noise on the barbell. Angelo spent some years in the Army Reserves as a medic, a job that constantly emphasized the
importance of staying physically and mentally fit. From there, he furthered his passion for healthcare and is now working as a full-time, night-shift nurse. He also earned his personal training certification from NFPT; he is excited to share his knowledge and experience of health and fitness to any and all striving to meet their personal goals and to be the best version of
themselves.
