Climbing Classes

Climbing Training

Learn to boulder and the Wahine Series are intended for beginners and intermediate climbers to boost your bouldering skills through a wide variety of techniques.

 

Course topics will vary but may include (see class title for specific subject):

  • Footwork

  • Balance

  • Route reading

  • Dynamic and static movement

  • General technique and lingo

Experience required for Learn to Boulder:

  • None!

Experience required for Wahine Series:

  • HiClimb Top Rope certification for Wahine on the Ropes

  • HiClimb Lead certification for Wahine on Lead

Session includes:​

  • Instruction

  • Equipment

Cost for all Climbing Training sessions:

  • FREE for members!

  • Included in with Day Pass

Training schedule
Learn the ropes

Learn The Ropes class is designed to introduce climbers to the basics of top-rope climbing.

 

This course will cover:

  • Climbing on Top-Rope

  • Belaying

  • Rope Management Techniques

  • Correct Belay Communication

  • Using auto-belays

Experience required: 

  • None!

Time/visits required:​

  • 2 visits (included)

    • 1st visit: 2 hours (instruction)

    • 2nd visit: 10 minutes (certification)

Course includes:

  • 2 Day passes

  • Rental equipment

  • 1 hour of instruction

  • 1 hour of supervised climbing

  • Belay certification test

Cost:

  • $70 non-members

  • $60 non-member (Kamaaina)

  • $30 members

Upon completion of the course, climbers may stay and climb for the rest of the day but may not be belay certified until their next visit. On their next visit, no-less than 24 hours later, they may take the belay test. Once belay certified, they will be issued a top rope belay card and able to climb and belay on all top-ropes in the gym!

learn to lead

Learn to lead class is designed to introduce climbers to lead climbing and belaying. This course includes two training sessions, one-week apart. 

 

This course will cover:

  • Equipment Familiarization

  • Communication

  • Clipping

  • Lead belaying

  • Catching

  • Falling

  • Rope Management

  • Minimizing Risk​

Experience required:

  • Capable of passing top-rope belay test

  • Climbing a grade of 5.7

Time/visits required:​​

  • 2 Visits (included, one-week apart)

    • 1st visit: 2 Hours​

    • 2nd visit: 3 Hours

Course includes:

  • 2 Day passes

  • Rental equipment and devices

  • 5 hours of instruction

  • Lead certification test

Cost:

  • $175 non-members

  • $150 non-member (Kamaaina)

  • $85 members

Upon conclusion of training, climbers may stay and climb for the rest of the day but may not lead climb until fully certified by HiClimb staff. Once lead certified, they will be issued a lead belay card and able to climb and belay on all lead routes in the gym!
